Countdown to Te Araroa

I am back in the Perth YHA after walking a couple of sections of the Bibbulmun Track. Summer is certainly knocking on the door of Western Australia as it felt hot stepping off my bus from Albany. Summer was very much absent on the Bibb! It has been good for trying out my gear and giving me more ideas to shave off the grams from my TA pack. I will be writing up my Bibb experience in the next week or so.

So my attention is now turning to the big one, the Te Araroa trail. This time in four weeks I’ll be spending my first night on the trail. I’ll have four to five months of walking ahead of me, from Cape Reinga to Bluff. I am due to start with three others and really looking forward to the challenge!

I decided to make a resupply map  and named it ‘The Bigger Picture’ (above). I posted it on the TA Facebook group and it was well received as a compliment to the excellent notes and maps that are already out there. I have only completed the North Island but I am now working on the South. I love maps, always have done!
