Big day to Chadoora – Day 10

I slept pretty well just outside the shelter but I am still wondering whether my expensive new Sea 2 Summit ultralight sleeping pad is wide enough for a comfortable night. Time will tell.

I was first to leave camp! On the trail before 9am and I reached Mt Wells camp around lunchtime. There is a fire tower and I climbed it for a panaramic view.

Mt Wells camp is unique in that it was an enclosed structure, unlike most on the trail which are three sided. It was pretty cramped inside and cold. Kind of reminded me of the New Zealand backcountry huts, but a very dated version. I was glad to be moving on but it made a great lunch stop.

I put my head down in the afternoon as I had another 16km to make. I’d have walked 32km by the time I reached my destination, a Bibbulmun record for me!

I passed a huge group walking the other way to Mt Wells camp and was even more glad to have skipped staying there!

I arrived Chadoora to find it empty and set up Kmart in the corner. About an hour later Bruce showed up. He’d also ‘double hutted’. Bruce was finishing his walk the next day and very generously offered me a can of beer, which is an absolute luxury on the trail!
